April 4, 2019 — Weston Kiwanis is hosting an evening of wine, food, friends, and fun on April 27th at 7:00 at Aspetuck Valley Country Club. It promises to be a memorable event, and it supports an important program.
Six-year-old Dylan Hockley (pictured) was killed in the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th, 2012. In his memory, Dylan’s father, Ian Hockley, started a foundation called Dylan’s Wings of Change.
Net proceeds from the Kiwanis wine tasting event benefit the foundation and its flagship, “Wingman,” a youth leadership program that develops social and emotional skills through team bonding and trust building. The program inspires children to be more empathetic, courageous, and inclusive.
Wingman is being used in schools, dance studios, running clubs, summer camps and after-school programs around the world to promote accepting and inclusive environments. The foundation plans to bring it to Weston Middle School in the near future.
The April 27 wine tasting event features selections of 25 wines, hors d'ouvres, a buffet, and a silent auction. Tickets are $100 per person. You can purchase them online, make a donation, or get more information about the event at the Weston Kiwanis website.
Visit the Dylan’s Wings of Change website for more information about the foundation and Wingman.
